Welcome

Robert’s first woodworking experience was in the mid 1960's while working on wooden boats in St. Joseph, Michigan as a teenager.  Under the watchful eye of William Palmer, Robert learned the ins and outs of cutting and matching ribs, hull sections, and decking.  After his college years and 40 years in law enforcement and public safety education he ended his professional career as the Associate Director of the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville in September of 2006.

His vacation time was spent taking woodworking classes and collecting tools and machinery in preparation  for his dream of becoming a furniture maker.  Robert has participated in many woodworking training classes at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking and completed his Masters of Woodworking in 2004.  He has taken multiple classes from Marc Adams, Mario Rodriguez, Mack Headly, Allan Breed, Steve Latta, and Kerry Pierce.   Currently he is studying and working towards successfully completing the requirements of the Michael Fortune Fellowship.

Robert is now making custom furniture, full time, from his workshop in La Grange, Kentucky.  His primary interest is in 18th Century Federal tables and chests, Shaker furniture, and Sukyo Mahikari Altars.  He has also produced a variety of furniture, including modern hall tables.

He is a member of the Furniture Society and the Society of American Period Furniture  Makers.
